7 Easy Ways to Save Money

Who wouldn’t like a little more dough? Here are several easy ways to make the most of your money starting today.

#1 Buy Some Food Products in Bulk

This has to be one of the oldest tricks in the book. When you by more quantity of something, you are likely to pay less per unit. You do need to be careful with this one though. Sometimes bulk retailers don’t always have the lowest price, even if they are selling bulk. Also, some bulk retailers tend to focus on selling brand name products in bulk, which may make it more expensive than buying a regular size generic brand. Another tip: if your bulk retailer charges a membership fee, make sure the savings will more than pay for it.

#2 Join the DIY revolution

HGTV may have more influence in our society than the news. 😂 But seriously, doing simple home repairs on your own can save you a lot of money in the long run. Paint your own home. Replace your own appliances. Fix that squeaky door by yourself. Paying someone else to do these tasks can literally cost hundreds of dollars more than doing it yourself.

#3 Cut the Cable

Cable or Satellite television is one of the single largest drains on the American Pocketbook. Customers pay hundreds of dollars a year for thousands upon thousands of television hours you can’t watch. Although cable news is an informative luxury, a lot of programming on cable can be accessed for a fraction of the price through a much cheaper streaming service. If cable tv is your thing, I get it, just realize how much it cost.

#4 Buy Less Prepared Food

While buying frozen dinners, sides, and desserts can be very appealing and sometimes necessary in our busy lives, keep in mind that the more work that is put into something, the more it will cost you. It is almost always cheaper to buy the ingredients for a meal and whip it up at home than it is to buy it prepared. Plus, it is a good way to foster family time and conversation.

#5 Don’t be Afraid to Shop Clearance

The only thing that shopping clearance says about a person is that they are wise with their money. As stores reach the end of a merchandise season, the old stuff needs to be moved out so that the new stuff can come in. Clothing is a perfect example; you can often find 50% savings or more by buying ahead for next year.

#6 Second Hand Doesn’t Always Mean Second Rate

A common misconception in our culture is that if something is going to be good, it needs to be new. Quite honestly, the only reason that this belief probably exists is  because commercials tell us all our lives to buy, buy, buy. But there are so many ways that you can buy quality stuff  used and save big! Furniture is a huge example. Purchasing refurbished electronics from reputable companies can knock hundreds of dollars off the price. Second hand books and clothing are often 85% to 95% the cost of the sticker price.

#7 Be Wary of Subscriptions

Subscriptions are those little monetary commitments like  magazines, newspapers, music and video streaming services, data for your cell phone, memberships, passes, and more that you pay for can add up to literally thousands of dollars at the end of the year. I’m not saying that having some subscriptions is bad, but it makes financial sense to prioritize, so that you don’t throw your money away. Do you pay for more phone data than you use? Do you actually read those magazines you get? Why are you a member of the National Crock Pot Organization? Minimize the number of  your subscriptions to what is necessary and then one or two for fun.

The biggest thought I want you to take away is that the little things add up. Follow these tips and be wise with your money and the you in your retirement will thank you! 😂

People often think spending wisely means doing without the things you like. …..
I find the opposite is true. Second hand shops and end of season sales are wonderful ways to load up on hobbie supplies at maximum savings!! The end result is you have MORE to do the things you enjoy!!
